Reducing Environmental Toxins BEFORE Conception

August 9, 2010 by Crystal Di Domizio 15 Comments

This eye opening video about how our changed environment is impacting the health of our future children so eloquently puts into visual form the answer to the question…

Is it really necessary to prepare my body for pregnancy?

If you have the option, the answer is a resounding YES!

I’m grateful to have the knowledge that the issues raised in this video start affecting a child’s health before conception, not just through pregnancy.

Did you know that a child’s health blueprint becomes the lowest common denominator of both parents health at the time of conception?

This information enables us to make a conscious effort to reduce our exposure to environmental toxins in the 6 month period prior to conception. This is one of the ways that we are going to start optimizing our child’s health before we become pregnant!

Stay tuned for blog posts about the specific steps we are taking to achieve this goal! πŸ™‚

Until then, please enjoy this short video…

I felt the same way when we were looking to conceive. We had just gotten back from traveling in the Middle East, so I did a cleanse, cut out sugar and processed food for the couple months before conceiving.

I hope this laid a strong foundation, because once I was pregnant, I had TERRIBLE morning sickness, and the only food I could tolerate was crap. Seriously. Even looking at a vegetable made me want to throw up for first 3 months. Really, the only thing I wanted to eat was boiled perogies with jarred tomato sauce, and I was guzzling whole cows milk (at least I bought organic). Once I even couldn’t resist a hot dog from a hotdog stand – something I wouldn’t dream about doing most of the time. But it was the only calories my body would let me keep down.

It wasn’t like I didn’t know better. It wasn’t that I wasn’t trying to eat well or didn’t care. The cravings and aversions were so overwhelming that it seemed like I wasn’t in control of what I was eating. … anyway, some food for thought.

    Crystal,

This is a great blog – one that I hope to follow regularly. I purchased Nina Planck’s book “Real Food for Mother and Baby: The Fertility Diet, Eating for Two, and Baby’s First Foods” a few months ago, and I have been doing my best to follow her advice. It’s only been five months, but I’m hoping for some “good news” soon! Thanks for sharing this! I guess we’re on this journey together!!

Thank you for sharing this Crystal. Great video, so simple yet so powerful. There is so much that we can do, just one decision at a time, one baby step at a time.
I was planning a series of posts about pre-conception health (at some stage!) and this will be part of it. It’s difficult sometimes to get the message across that something so ‘normal’ in that it has been an everyday choice our whole lives (in the products we eat and use), can actually be harmful…as they are not ‘normal’ at all, nature has really been lost in many instances.
    Thank you and happy Easter!

Are you familiar with Bruce Lipton’s work? I think you’d really enjoy reading about his research on evolving DNA and how it begins 2 months before conception and continue through life based on the mama’s environment, nutrition, even her thoughts and feelings…
